Realisations

 

  • Adoption of the Protocol on the free movement of persons, signed in 1978, evidenced by the abolition of visas for nationals of the community,

  • Establishment of an ECOWAS Passport,

  • Creating an ECOWAS traveler's check launched in July 1999 to facilitate trade transactions and payment,

  • Progressive raising of tariffs on some products to promote intra-Community trade

 

The ongoing construction of a pipeline between Nigeria and Ghana, through Togo and Benin.

 

Establishment of a Common Agricultural Policy (ECOWAP) adopted January 19, 2005 with three axes:

 

        1. Improving the productivity and competitiveness of agriculture

        2. Implementation of intra-Community trade regime

        3. Harmonization of external trade regime (protection and harmonization of trading positions)

 

ECOWAS has a flag and an anthem community, to be adopted gradually by the Members States.
