Adoption of the Protocol on the free movement of persons, signed in 1978, evidenced by the abolition of visas for nationals of the community,

Progressive raising of tariffs on some products to promote intra-Community trade
The ongoing construction of a pipeline between Nigeria and Ghana, through Togo and Benin.
Establishment of a Common Agricultural Policy (ECOWAP) adopted January 19, 2005 with three axes:
1. Improving the productivity and competitiveness of agriculture
2. Implementation of intra-Community trade regime
3. Harmonization of external trade regime (protection and harmonization of trading positions)
ECOWAS has a flag and an anthem community, to be adopted gradually by the Members States.
